Cherie and I both have our health and are very blessed with a happy, healthy marriage and a beautiful daughter. We have worked hard during our careers and hope to be able to retire early enough to actively enjoy our post-work period and to be there for our daughter.

Why I am interested in losing weight...

We have family histories of coronary issues and/or diabetes and we realize that weight is a key factor in controlling both of these debilitating diseases. So after participating in the Biggest Loser Million Pound Match-Up earlier in 2008, Cherie and I were both "off the chain" and gained a good bit of our lost weight back. After Thanksgiving 2008, I started back with the program. I'll be using this space exclusively now for motivation and to track my progress.
My Plan...

It has taken nearly 20 years to get to the weight I am at today so I don't expect it to go away overnight - but I do realize it does have to GO AWAY! I plan to take this activity one day at a time and know that while it might take time, I will reach my goal by reminding myself what I am striving for in the long run. Cherie will run the dietary part of the effort by carefully planning out each meal for the week ensuring that everything taste’s great and has a low caloric content. Both of us will concentrate on smaller portions and cutting out the unhealthy snacks. I and will make sure that I have the appropriate amount of calorie loss via the treadmill and elliptical each week – and never, never give up!
Why I am online...

This adventure started January 1, 2008 as a member of the Biggest Loser Million Pound Match-up. For the contest, winning was about reaching our goal weight - not taking the “prize”. We did neither. I am now post-contest with one objective – to loose the weight I intended to loose earlier this year. Hopefully my online friends will still be there for me!!

YEA FOR MICHELLE!!

YEA FOR MICHELLE!!  I threw my size 10 shoe at the TV when the other "blue team schemers" came on to the stage!  Michelle out witted them with plain 'ol hard work!!!  BTW, I think they should have called out the salt trucks for the stage last night - looked like there were some icy spots out there Wink

Bad food decisions during the holdiays...

I've been doing informal weigh ins in December almost every day now. I was doing well mid -week last week (high 230's), but the house of cards (so it seems) came tumbling down last weekend. I had to start over again yesterday and have done ok for the most part, but I did loose a lot of ground in the past 3 days.

I really wanted to be in the mid-230's by the holiday break (24th through the 5th) so the two weeks of not working out will not be as significant of an impact, but I've got to switch to plan "b" now ... I'll have to overcome temptation and go without some of the goodies - which will be very hard.

Ok - I promise to get out a little more and visit my friend's spaces. I tried last week, but a lot of them have gone dark so the whole experience was a little disheartening. Mine did too for a while, so there's no judgment here on my part. Tomorrow morning when I do my hour of elliptical I'll be visiting spaces the entire time. Let me know if you're still out there so I can put you at the top of the list!!!

Since I started to think about these four gauges in my daily life (and I mentally visualize them a good bit of the day) 3 out of the 4 aspects have gotten a tiny bit easier to maintain and control. I've really concentrated on the stress and anxiety gauges, but the pain gauge became a little bit of an influence since last weekend. The shoulder pain and some sinus headaches kinda tore me down a bit. Temptation was off the flippin' charts, though. Between holiday parties and the Steeler - Ravens game last Sunday, this weekend was a weight loss train wreck. I took yesterday off to do some shopping, and had little time to prepare healthy options to snack on, so fast food entered my life briefly at lunch time Sad. Pain added to the mix, but temptation unfortunately ruled the weekend - therfore bad food decisions dominated.

The results are in....

Yesterday was the first day for tracking the four major influences for my weight gain. The goal is to adjust my lifestyle so all four gauges are below 50% most, if not all, the time. I’ll be looking at the contributing factors for each and making the appropriate adjustments.

Wednesday, December 10th, had a moderate level of stress due to weather conditions and the fact that the day was measured in “minutes”. A chilling evening helped diffuse higher volumes earlier in the day. Anxiety was high for various reasons and will need to be managed a little better. Pain decreased below 50% for the first time in a week in a half because my shoulder is on the mend. Temptation was very high for the second straight day due to the season and contributing Anxiety levels.

I have a lot of work to do in order to get ready for a long term weight loss program. On the positive side, I did get an hour workout in yesterday!!

Four Sabotage Elements for Weight Loss...

Today I came to the realization that there are four factors at play that get in the way of my weight loss ... Stress, Anxiety, Pain, and Temptation. The only way to track my progress effectively would be to track these values on a regular basis. This will be my first blog entry with these tracking elements.

Yesterday was a tough one...

Yesterday was a tough one, and without a workout, it didn’t help my cause. A full breakfast, lunch, and dinner where I was obliged to eat incorrect foods did the trick. A complete lineup of stress, a broken car, and not enough time to workout didn’t help much. Today will have to be a complete 360 in order to get back on track again. I’m doing my hour on the elliptical as I write this and have good food intentions for the day. Stress will be a little lower today and we will be picking up the car from the shop ($$$$). At least I didn’t have to buy a new one!!!

not a road warrior, but did have a recent mini-vacation and the only thing that I can offer is the hotel gym, granola bars (nature valley sweet and salty are awesome) and 100 calorie packs - they seem (for me) to control the hunger so I could make a more informed decision with my meals.
